CONTROL & INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN
We are currently looking to recruit a permanent Electrical, Control & Instrument Technician within our Maintenance department at our Chirnside Plant.
The Role
Working within our Maintenance Team you will ensure maintenance work is executed efficiently and on time to drive plant reliability supporting operational efficiency. As an C&I Technician, you will be responsible for developing, installing, managing, and maintaining equipment used to drive, monitor and control engineering systems across the plant. You will play a crucial role in optimising the performance of our plant assets safely whilst staying up to date with the latest industry standards and best practices.
Reporting to the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Department Supervisor, your key responsibilities will include:
* Including Take 5 in your daily tasks and creating a Zero harm environment ensuring your own safety and that of others.
* Providing technical support, including the installation and fault diagnosis of instrumentation and control equipment, and systems specific to paper mill operations;
* Carrying out planned proactive tasks in accordance with shutdown plans.
* Carrying out reactive tasks as required by the needs of the business.
* Disciplined adherence to all safe systems and processes;
* Developing new control systems tailored to paper mill operations, as well as test, maintain and modify existing systems to ensure safety and efficiency;
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines across all C&I and asset management activities.
* Ensuring compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
* Participating in the development and execution of OPEX and CAPEX budgeted activities and projects related to paper mill electrical, control and instrumentation and asset management;
* Developing and executing asset maintenance and replacement plans to optimise asset performance, minimise downtime, and reduce overall maintenance costs;
* Reviewing and implementing planned maintenance programmes to meet statutory, OEM, and industry-specific requirements for paper mills;
* Audit the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS-MaintainX) to ensure maintenance history is accurate and up to date, focusing on paper mill-specific equipment and processes;
* Other duties specified by the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Supervisor and Engineering Manager to support operational requirements.
The Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will preferably have undergone a recognised apprenticeship scheme, have a minimum of 5 years experience in a control and instrumentation maintenance team within the paper industry or similar manufacturing environment and will have gained appropriate qualifications in their associated trade. They will be familiar with the maintaining and optimising of industrial control systems, Advanced Process Control (APC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) (Siemens PCS7 would be an advantage), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
The successful candidate will be a driven individual who is dynamic, self motivated, and determined to succeed. They will be prepared to train others such as apprentices and operate within a multi disciplinal team. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. This is a day shift position, Monday to Friday working week and within reason, working outside these hours as the needs of the business demands.
8am-4pm with half an hour unpaid lunch break daily
