Role Purpose The Senior Technical Services Manager provides senior technical leadership across multiple projects or a single complex project. The role is responsible for ensuring consistent application of Ambit’s technical standards, managing technical risk, and supporting successful project outcomes from tender stage through to handover. The STSM acts as the key escalation point for technical matters and plays a critical role in developing and supporting the Technical Services team.

  • Strong background in building services / MEP contracting
  • Proven experience leading technical delivery on complex commercial projects
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Building Regulations, standards, and best practice
  • Strong coordination, problem-solving, and risk management skills
  • Proven experience in client facing roles previously.
  • Proficiency in Procore or similar Document Control Programmes
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior technical staff
  • Desirable
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management capability

Generic Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance across allocated projects
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, Employer’s Requirements, and industry best practice
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate technical and design risk
  • Support development, mentoring, and performance management of TSMs and ATSMs
  • Promote Ambit’s values, quality standards, and continuous improvement culture
  • Collaborate closely with Commercial, Design, Construction, and Sustainability teams

Role-Specific Responsibilities

  • Pre-Construction & Tendering
  • Lead technical input on complex, high-value, or high-risk tenders
  • Provide guidance and oversight to TSMs and ATSMs during tender reviews
  • Identify key technical risks, assumptions, opportunities, and constraints
  • Coordinate technical inputs across multiple TSMs where required
  • Review and sign-off technical content of tender submissions
  • Support bid strategy development and attend post-tender interviews as required
  • Supply Chain & Procurement
  • Support selection and management of MEP subcontractors and specialist consultants
  • Review subcontractor proposals for technical compliance, risk, and value
  • Chair or support mid-bid and post-tender technical interviews
  • Assist the Commercial Manager with technical aspects of package orders and Kick Off Meetings
  • Work with the Head of Technical Services to maintain a robust and capable supply chain
  • Design Management & Delivery
  • Provide overall technical oversight of allocated projects
  • Ensure coordinated, compliant, and buildable design solutions
  • Produce, drive and review design programmes, technical project trackers, and interface schedules
  • A deep understanding of Document Control Software
  • Support resolution of complex technical, coordination, or statutory issues
  • A proactive attitude towards project tasks
  • Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure quality management processes are implemented and followed
  • Oversee technical reviews, inspections, and validation activities
  • Challenge designs and installations to ensure compliance and best practice
  • Escalate and manage technical risks that may impact programme, cost, or quality
