Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Service Architect to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud services, and IT service management (ITSM). As a Service Architect, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our service architecture to ensure it meets the business needs and aligns with industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Development:
- Develop and design service architectures, including SOA, microservices, and cloud services.
- Create high-level design artifacts, service models, and architectural blueprints.
- Ensure that the architecture is scalable, maintainable, and secure.
Strategy And Planning:
- Define the service architecture strategy in alignment with business goals.
- Develop and maintain a roadmap for service architecture initiatives.
- Assess current service architectures and recommend improvements.
Implementation And Integration:
- Lead the implementation of service architecture projects.
- Ensure seamless integration of new services with existing systems and applications.
- Collaborate with IT and business teams to define service requirements and specifications.
Governance And Standards:
- Establish and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of the service architecture to ensure compliance.
- Develop and maintain documentation for service architecture processes and procedures.
Performance And Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze the performance of services and make recommendations for improvements.
- Optimize service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Implement monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track service performance.
Collaboration And Communication:
- Work closely with stakeholders, including business leaders, IT teams, and external partners.
- Communicate complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior architects and developers.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with service architecture.
- Develop contingency plans and disaster recovery strategies for critical services.
Good client facing experience, gathering and understanding requirements and synthesising these into clear statements of need. Good appreciation of how technology solutions are used to offer a bundle of services to end users, especially in the desktop and cloud services. Experience in the design of service delivery, support, and management requirements through the development and adaptation to the service value chain, conscious of and adapting to the particular needs of clients. Experience in various techniques and approaches to engaging with clients in the discovery, understanding, and playback of requirements and how these can be achieved.
Combination of agile and waterfall project delivery methods, exposure to GDS standard for service design and delivery. ITIL 3/4 experience beyond foundational level, with at least 7 years performing this role and exposure across a number of different projects in both the private and public sector. Good knowledge and experience of both ITSM and ITOM operating models and tooling capabilities, with an emphasis on ServiceNow.
Experience in the development of taxonomies and information and business architecture techniques to translate client requirements into standardised consumable services.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 3 years focused on service architecture.
- Proven experience with SOA, microservices, cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and ITSM.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of architectural frameworks and methodologies.
- Proficiency in service modeling, design patterns, and best practices.
- Experience with API management, integration platforms, and middleware.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Certifications (preferred)
- TOGAF, ITIL, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or similar.
