About Amber Labs
Amber Labs is a cutting-edge technology consultancy delivering innovative digital solutions across the UK public sector. We specialise in building scalable, user-centred services that make a real impact, particularly across Central Government.
The Role
We’re supporting a large, complex organisation as they continue to evolve their product-led delivery model. As part of this journey, we are looking for a Principal Consultant – Product Operating Model & Governance to help design and embed a governance layer that provides senior stakeholders with visibility, confidence, and control, without compromising the agility and benefits of product-led delivery. This is a high-impact, senior role, requiring someone who can operate at both a strategic and hands-on level—shaping how governance works while remaining grounded in the reality of delivery teams.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and embedding an effective governance framework across a product-led delivery environment
- Defining how work flows through the product operating model
- Establishing and implementing product delivery metrics (flow, throughput, dependencies, blockers, outcomes)
- Creating clear, meaningful executive reporting and dashboards for senior stakeholders
- Helping leadership understand delivery progress, risks, and confidence levels
- Ensuring governance enhances (not restricts) product and agile ways of working
- Providing independent challenge and perspective on the current model
- Supporting and influencing both senior stakeholders and delivery teams
- Embedding sustainable ways of working post-transformation
Essential experience:
- Proven experience working in large, complex organisations
- Deep expertise in product operating models and product-led delivery
- Strong background in governance design, assurance, and delivery oversight
- Experience defining and using flow metrics and delivery measurement frameworks
- Track record of building executive-level reporting and insight
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior/executive level
- Experience working across multiple teams, domains, or portfolios
Desirable:
- Experience in post-transformation embedding
- Background in Agile, Lean, or scaled product environments
- Experience coaching or advising senior leadership
- Active SC clearance (or eligibility and willingness to undergo clearance)
Security Requirements
Candidates must be eligible for BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) as a minimum. SC clearance is highly desirable.
About You
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and delivery levels
- Able to challenge constructively while building trust
- Strong communicator who can translate complexity into clear insights
- Pragmatic and outcome-focused with a hands-on mindset
- Able to bring a fresh, independent perspective
What’s On Offer
- Opportunity to shape governance in a modern, product-led organisation
- Flexible working: remote-first with ad hoc travel
- Choice of permanent or 12-month FTC
- High-visibility role working with senior stakeholders
What we offer
- 25 days annual leave plus public holidays, so you can actually switch off
- Private medical insurance with Bupa

- Perkbox, giving you access to hundreds of perks and discounts across eating out, shopping, wellness, entertainment and more
- EV scheme after one year of service, supporting you in making the switch to electric
- Regular team socials with a group of people who genuinely enjoy working together
- Employer pension contributions
