About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager (Data Centre Design) to oversee and drive the end-to-end design and delivery of complex data centre infrastructure projects. This is a senior-level position requiring strong technical expertise, outstanding communication skills, and proven experience operating at a strategic level, including engagement with C-level stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the SME field and has a proven track record of designing, building, and delivering enterprise-grade data centres, with awareness or involvement in cloud-based solutions and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and architectural development of data centre facilities, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with executive stakeholders including CTO, CIO, and other C-level leaders to define data centre strategies and requirements.
- Produce high-level and detailed data centre design documentation including electrical, mechanical, and network architecture.
- Manage end-to-end data centre delivery lifecycle – from concept through commissioning and handover.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, security, and cloud architects to ensure design compatibility and operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and environmental best practices.
- Evaluate new technologies and emerging trends to inform forward-looking data centre strategies, including integration with cloud platforms where appropriate.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) in data centre services, advising both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience designing and delivering data centres.
- Understanding of critical systems including power, cooling, cabling, fire suppression, and physical security.
- Confidence and credibility to operate and influence at C-suite level.
- Experience working within SMEs, demonstrating agility and hands-on leadership in lean, high-impact environments.
- Knowledge of hybrid environments and cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Solid understanding of service design principles within the data centre domain.
- Familiarity with relevant standards.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to lead technical teams and third-party vendors during design and build phases.
