The Company

At Amber Labs, we are a cutting‐edge UK and European technology consultancy that prioritises autonomy, experimentation, and rapid learning to deliver exceptional value to our clients. Our company culture is highly collaborative, whether you're a consultant or part of our internal team, everyone contributes to reducing risk and accelerating delivery. We work extensively within the UK public sector, supporting Central Government departments through digital transformation and user‐centred design practices.

The Opportunity

We are looking for experienced Front End Developers with government delivery experience to join our growing consultancy team. You will play a key role in refactoring legacy applications into modern, user‐focused interfaces, ensuring functional equivalence while supporting the safe migration and decommissioning of long‐standing systems. This is not greenfield development or transformational redesign. Instead, you'll work on complex, high‐risk legacy remediation where accuracy, stability and collaboration are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable, accessible front‐end components aligned to government standards.
  • Rebuild legacy user interfaces using modern web technologies while maintaining functional equivalence.
  • Collaborate closely with back‐end developers, architects, testers and client‐side teams.
  • Support phased delivery across design, build, migration and decommission stages.
  • Ensure quality through CI pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing.
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing within delivery teams.

Proven experience delivering government or public sector digital services

  • Hands‐on experience with Node.js.
  • Experience with ReactJS and modern front‐end development practices.
  • Familiarity with templating and front‐end frameworks such as Nunjucks, Freemarker, Bootstrap, LESS / SASS.
  • Experience working within CI/CD environments using tooling such as Git, GitLab CI, Jenkins, SonarQube.
  • Understanding of accessibility, usability and secure development in public sector contexts.
  • Experience working alongside or integrating with Java‐based back ends.
  • Familiarity with AWS and cloud‐hosted environments.

What We're Looking For

  • A team‐first consultant mindset, prioritising collective success over individual ownership.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with client stakeholders.
  • Comfort navigating complex organisational and political landscapes.
  • Ability to balance pace of delivery with system stability and risk management.
  • Adaptability when working with undocumented logic and legacy constraints.

Join a rapidly expanding consultancy where personal growth is part of our DNA. Flexible hybrid working focused on deliverable outcomes. Private medical insurance (Aviva) and pension plan (Nest). 25 days of annual leave plus UK bank holidays. Access to Perkbox, our employee rewards platform offering discounts, perks, and wellbeing resources. Generous employee referral programme. Choose your preferred device – PC or Mac. Be encouraged to take bold steps and embrace experimentation.

Diversity & Inclusion

Amber Labs is proud to be building a workplace that reflects and celebrates the diversity of our teams and communities. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all employees are welcomed, respected, and supported. Providing a culture of dignity and respect free from harassment and discrimination. Ensuring all hires are trained and aware of their role in creating a safe, equitable workplace.
