We're currently supporting the delivery of a major national digital transformation programme within the UK public sector and are looking for an experienced Environment Manager to join our growing delivery team.
This role will support the delivery of business-critical digital services by ensuring application environments remain stable, available and fit for purpose throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
The Role
As an Environment Manager, you will take ownership of the full lifecycle of multiple IT environments across Development, Test, UAT, Staging and Production.
Working within multidisciplinary Agile teams, you'll coordinate environment availability, provisioning, releases, deployments and governance to ensure projects are delivered successfully and without conflict.
You'll act as the central point of coordination for environment planning, supporting delivery teams, managing environment demand, overseeing releases and driving continuous improvement across environment management processes.
This role supports a highly secure public sector programme delivering nationally significant digital services, where reliability, governance and operational excellence are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of Development, Test, UAT, Staging and Production environments.
- Coordinate new environment requests, provisioning and allocation to support project delivery.
- Oversee environment builds, configuration, upgrades, refreshes, data cleansing and deployments.
- Ensure environments remain available, stable and aligned to business and project requirements.
- Manage environment capacity, utilisation and forecasting.
- Define and maintain environment standards, documentation and operating procedures.
- Manage environment access, usage policies and configuration control.
- Ensure environments are managed in a controlled, auditable and compliant manner.
- Support environment optimisation and continual improvement initiatives.
- Release & Change Management
- Coordinate software releases across multiple environments.
- Manage environment readiness for planned deployments and project milestones.
- Ensure releases are planned, documented and scheduled to avoid conflicts.
- Support Change Management processes and configuration governance.
- Incident & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary escalation point for environment-related incidents and risks.
- Lead investigation and resolution activities across technical and delivery teams.
- Work closely with developers, testers, infrastructure engineers, DBAs, architects and project managers.
- Support projects in defining their environment requirements and managing competing priorities.
- Active SC Clearance.
- Proven experience managing complex IT environments across Development, Test, UAT and Production.
- Strong understanding of Environment Management principles, governance and lifecycle management.
- Experience coordinating software releases, deployments and environment scheduling.
- Experience managing environment provisioning, configuration, refreshes and maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of Change Management, Configuration Management and Release Management processes.
- Experience working within large enterprise or highly regulated environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple technical teams.
- Excellent planning, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Experience supporting Oracle application environments, including Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS).
- Experience working with Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Middleware or similar enterprise integration platforms.
- Familiarity with Oracle Intelligent Advisor or other business rules platforms.
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent Service Management experience.
- Experience using Azure Dev Ops, Jira or similar delivery management tools.
- Experience supporting UK Government or other secure public sector programmes.
