Your Role
Amber Labs is looking for a skilled Full Stack Developer with strong Node.js expertise to join our engineering team on a confidential government transformation programme. You’ll be building secure, scalable web applications across both backend and frontend layers, contributing to mission-critical digital services used across the UK and internationally.
What You’ll Do
As a Full Stack Developer, you’ll design and develop robust APIs and backend services using Node.js, while also contributing to frontend interfaces that deliver seamless user experiences. You’ll work within a cloud-native architecture, leveraging AWS, containerisation, and infrastructure automation to deliver resilient, maintainable solutions.
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js
- Build responsive, accessible frontend components using modern JavaScript frameworks
- Design event-driven systems using Kafka and SQS
- Implement infrastructure automation with Terraform
- Deploy and manage services in AWS (ECS, Cognito, SQS)
- Containerise applications using Docker
- Collaborate across DevOps, design, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
- Maintain code quality through GitLab CI/CD and peer reviews
- Ensure scalability, security, and performance across the stack
Your Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in full stack development with Node.js
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservices
- Experience with frontend frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
- Familiarity with event-driven systems (Kafka, SQS)
- Proficiency in AWS services and cloud-native deployment
- Experience with Terraform and Docker
- Comfortable working in agile, collaborative environments
