Overview: We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing team responsible for supporting a secure, cloud-based infrastructure underpinning critical public sector services. This role involves hands-on engineering support and contributing to service reliability, automation, and platform scalability. You will be part of a Level 3 support function and will participate in a paid on-call Rota to provide out-of-hours support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Level 3 engineering support for a large-scale cloud platform used in a regulated public sector environment
- Participate in a paid out-of-hours on-call support rota (evenings, weekends, and bank holidays)
- Build and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
- Support and improve CI/CD processes to enable fast, safe deployments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, implement changes, and enhance system performance
- Ensure the infrastructure meets non-functional requirements such as high availability, cost efficiency, and scalability
- Maintain operational documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Strong Linux systems administration experience
- AWS infrastructure and services (EC2, S3, IAM, etc.)
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform or CloudFormation
- Configuration management: Ansible
- Reverse proxy/load balancer experience: Nginx
- CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
- Docker/container experience
- Experience working in Agile teams using tools like Git, Jira, and Confluence
- Eligible for SC and NPPV3 clearance
Desirable:
- Container orchestration with Kubernetes
- HashiCorp tools: Vault, Consul, Packer
- Monitoring and observability with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar
- Familiarity with cloud networking, VPCs, NAT Gateways, security groups, etc.
