The Role
As a HR Data Migration Architect, you will play a key role in preparing and assuring HR data for migration from legacy systems into a new HR environment. You will work closely with HR stakeholders, technical teams and programme colleagues to understand existing HR systems and data, identify quality issues, shape migration approaches and ensure migration activities are well planned and governed.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with HR stakeholders to understand business requirements, processes and data needs.
- Analyse and understand legacy HR systems, structures and data flows.
- Assess HR data quality, identifying inconsistencies, gaps, duplication and potential migration risks.
- Support the definition and planning of HR data migration activities.
- Organise and coordinate migration preparation activities across business and technical teams.
- Contribute to migration strategies, approaches and plans.
- Review and assure proposed migration approaches, ensuring they are robust, achievable and aligned with programme objectives.
- Identify data dependencies, risks, assumptions and potential issues that could impact migration.
- Work collaboratively with architects, data specialists, HR teams and programme stakeholders.
- Provide clear recommendations and assurance around data readiness and migration activity.
- Support governance, documentation and reporting throughout the migration lifecycle.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience working as a Data Migration Architect, Data Migration Lead, Data Architect or similar senior data role.
- Strong experience delivering or supporting HR data migration programmes.
- Demonstrable understanding of HR systems and HR data, including the complexities associated with employee, organisational and workforce data.
- Experience analysing and improving data quality prior to migration.
- Strong understanding of legacy systems, data structures, data mapping and migration processes.
- Experience developing, reviewing or assuring data migration strategies and approaches.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, particularly when working with HR/business stakeholders alongside technical teams.
- Experience working within a highly regulated, controlled or high-assurance environment.
- Ability to identify and manage migration risks, dependencies and data-related issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data and technical issues into clear business recommendations.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with major HR platforms such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, Oracle PeopleSoft or similar.
- Experience with HR transformation or HR technology replacement programmes.
- Experience working within UK Government or other highly regulated organisations.
- Knowledge of data governance, data protection and information assurance principles.
- Experience working within Agile or structured programme delivery environments.
- Experience providing independent assurance or challenge of migration plans and approaches.
