We’re looking for an experienced Interaction Designer to join our User Centred Design teams, working across central government transformation programmes. You’ll design intuitive, accessible and evidence-led digital experiences that meet the needs of users while working within complex organisational, technical and policy constraints. Working as part of multidisciplinary agile teams, you’ll turn research and service insights into clear interaction designs, prototypes and user journeys that can be tested, iterated and taken through to delivery. You’ll work closely with User Researchers, Service Designers, Content Designers, Product Managers, Business Analysts and Developers to ensure the experiences you design work effectively for both users and the wider service. Designing intuitive, accessible and user-centred digital experiences across complex government services Translating user research, service insights and business requirements into interaction designs and user journeys Collaborating closely with User Researchers to incorporate evidence and user feedback into design decisions Working with Service Designers to understand the wider service context and ensure digital interactions support end-to-end journeys Facilitating and contributing to design workshops, critiques and collaborative sessions with stakeholders Applying accessibility and inclusive design principles throughout the design process Working within GDS Service Standards and established government design patterns and standards Presenting and communicating design decisions clearly to stakeholders at different levels of seniority Supporting design activity from discovery and alpha through to beta and live delivery Contributing to design best practice and helping strengthen design capability across delivery teams Proven experience working as an Interaction Designer within complex digital transformation programmes Experience designing digital services within central government or public sector environments A strong portfolio demonstrating user-centred interaction design across complex services or products Strong understanding of interaction design principles, user journeys, information architecture and usability Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary agile teams Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles Experience working with design systems and established design patterns, ideally including the GOV.UK Design System Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Miro and other collaborative design and prototyping tools Ability to use research and evidence to inform design decisions and clearly communicate your rationale Confidence working with ambiguity and balancing user needs with technical, business and policy constraints Experience working through different stages of the digital service lifecycle, from discovery through to delivery We believe benefits should be practical: things that genuinely support your day-to-day, give you flexibility and help you keep developing. 25 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays ~ Private medical insurance with Bupa ~ Remote-first working, with access to our Liverpool Street office ~ Personal training budget to support your professional development ~ Perkbox membership, with discounts across retail, travel, dining and wellness ~ Electric Vehicle Scheme after one year of service ~ Referral scheme offering up to £3,000 for successful hires ~ Employer pension contributions ~ Once you’ve applied, our in-house Talent team will review your application and, if it looks like there could be a good fit, they’ll be in touch.
