Software Developer

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to join a major government programme, driving the development of accessible, compliant, and scalable solutions using modern technologies. You will play a key role in shaping engineering practices, mentoring team members, and ensuring adherence to organisational and government standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead software development ways of working and promote engineering best practices.
• Develop accessible and compliant UI using Government Design System principles.
• Deploy solutions in Azure and AWS environments.
• Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines and administer GitLab.
• Conduct horizon scanning and tech spikes to assess emerging technologies.
• Mentor junior team members and own technical onboarding processes.
• Foster collaboration through pair programming and cross-team engagement.
• Drive adoption of standards and best practices across teams.
• Ensure compliance with organisational and government standards.
• Experience with Government Design System for accessible UI design.
• Hands‑on experience deploying in Azure and AWS.
• Expertise in CI/CD pipeline setup and GitLab administration.
• Ability to lead engineering practices and mentor others.
• Ability to architect reusable frameworks for rapid prototyping and proof‑of‑concept development.
• Understanding of security requirements for cloud sandboxes.
• Experience delivering technical workshops and knowledge‑sharing sessions.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies for managing evolving requirements.
• Supporting security reviews and compliance for cloud‑based solutions.
