A specialist opportunity has arisen for an experienced trusts and tax professional to join a highly regarded Private Wealth team in Southampton, working with high-net-worth individuals and families on the administration and taxation of a varied portfolio of trusts. This is a role offering both technical depth and genuine variety. You’ll take responsibility for the ongoing administration of trusts, work closely with trustees and beneficiaries, and provide practical guidance on a broad range of trust and tax matters. Alongside managing your own work, you’ll also have the opportunity to support and mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the continued development of the wider practice.
The role involves:
- Managing the day-to-day administration of discretionary trusts and interest-in-possession trusts
- Advising trustees on their fiduciary and statutory responsibilities
- Supporting trustees with decision-making and the practical implementation of those decisions
- Attending trustee and client meetings where required
- Drafting trust deeds, trustee meeting minutes and resolutions
- Conducting annual trust reviews
- Preparing and maintaining trust accounts
- Completing Trust Registration Service (TRS) filings
- Preparing tax returns relating to income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax
- Supporting, mentoring and coaching junior members of the team
- Contributing to appropriate marketing and business development activities
The wider team advises high-net-worth clients across a broad range of private wealth matters, providing an excellent environment in which to continue developing your technical knowledge and expertise.
This opportunity could suit a qualified Solicitor or another suitably qualified professional with strong practical experience of trusts and tax matters. You are likely to have:
- Relevant experience in trust administration and taxation
- A professional qualification such as STEP or ATT, or another relevant qualification
- Experience advising on and administering a range of trust structures
- Knowledge of trust accounts and relevant tax compliance requirements
- Strong technical and organisational skills
- The confidence to manage matters proactively and work directly with trustees and clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A collaborative approach and an interest in supporting the development of junior colleagues
