Looking to build your career in IT and ready for an opportunity where you can learn, contribute and develop?

We’re looking for someone at the beginning of their IT career to join a busy IT team within an established organisation in Addlestone.

A six-month temporary assignment requiring immediate availability, and we're looking for commitment for the entire duration (running to 31st March 2026).

This could also potentially lead to something longer-term for the right person.

This is an entry-level opportunity combining first-line IT support with the administration and coordination that keeps an effective service desk running smoothly.

You might already have around a year’s experience working on an IT service desk, helpdesk or in IT support.

Alternatively, you could be an IT or Computing graduate looking for an opportunity to turn your knowledge into practical experience.

Either way, you don't need to arrive knowing everything.

What we're really looking for is someone with a good grounding in IT, an understanding of basic support principles, a natural problem-solving approach and, importantly, the enthusiasm to learn.

What will you be doing?

Working alongside the wider IT team, you'll help with the day-to-day running of the service desk and provide support to its users. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing initial first-line support and helping users with straightforward IT queries and issues.
  • Coordinating and administering IT service requests and related support activities.
  • Logging, monitoring and progressing incidents and service requests, escalating where appropriate.
  • Tracking actions arising from incidents, problems and service reviews.
  • Supporting service performance reporting and operational metrics.
  • Maintaining IT documentation, procedures and knowledge articles.
  • Helping maintain IT asset, licence and supplier records.
  • Maintaining Share Point and other document repositories.
  • Coordinating meetings, taking notes and keeping track of actions.
  • Preparing papers, reports and briefing information.
  • Assisting with supplier, purchasing, budget, purchase order and invoice administration where required.
  • Communicating with colleagues, IT suppliers and users across the organisation.

There will be a good mixture of IT support, service desk processing and administration, particularly during the initial months, so you'll need to be someone who is equally happy troubleshooting a user issue and making sure the associated records and processes are spot-on.

What are we looking for ?

We'd love to hear from you if you have either some early experience within IT support/service desk/helpdesk or a relevant IT/Computing qualification and the enthusiasm to begin developing your career.

You'll ideally bring

  • A basic understanding of IT systems and troubleshooting principles.
  • An interest in providing first-line IT support and resolving user issues.
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail.
  • The ability to follow processes while using your initiative.
  • A willingness to undertake the administrative side of running a busy IT service.
  • A genuine interest in developing your technical skills and taking on greater responsibility as your experience grows.

Previous experience on an IT service desk or in a support position would certainly be useful, but potential and aptitude matter too.

A role you can potentially grow into

This is initially a temporary assignment through to 31 March 2027, but it could offer much more than six months of experience for the right person.

The organisation is continuing to grow and its IT requirements are developing with it.

While there can be no guarantee of opportunities beyond the assignment, the team would particularly like to find someone who has the potential to develop their technical knowledge, take on greater responsibility and be ready to explore future opportunities should they arise.

The details

The position is based in Addlestone and is full-time, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, onsite five days a week.

The initial rate is £13.51 per hour plus £1.63 holiday pay for each hour worked – £15.14 per hour in total.

Following 12 weeks on assignment, the rate increases to £15.47 per hour plus £2.25 holiday pay - £17.72 per hour in total.

If you're looking for an opportunity to get your IT career moving and would enjoy being part of a team where you can learn as you go, we'd really like to hear from you.

How to prepare for a job interview at Amber Employment Services Careers

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
