The Role
We are looking for a commercially driven National Account Manager to lead our Cash & Carry, Convenience & Impulse channel across the UK. The role forms part of the Amber Beverage UK Off Trade sales team and reports directly into the UK Sales Director, working closely with cross functional teams across sales, marketing, finance and operations. You will manage and develop key partnerships across customers including Booker, Costco, Bestway, Dhamecha, Parfetts, regional cash & carry groups and independent cash & carry operators, while building strong relationships across customer buying teams, depot managers and customer field sales teams. The role will play a key part in accelerating Amber Beverage UK’s distribution, visibility and rate of sale within the UK independent retail and convenience channel. Success in the role will come from driving retailer recruitment, depot execution, promotional activation and strong engagement with customer field sales teams, while delivering commercially sustainable growth across the channel. Working closely alongside Amber national account, field sales, marketing, finance and logistics teams, the role combines customer management, brand building, commercial planning, activation and execution, with significant exposure across customers, brand owners and senior leadership internally. This is a highly visible role with real ownership and influence across one of the most dynamic growth channels within the UK drinks market. The role will involve regular UK travel, including customer meetings, depot visits, market visits and time spent working alongside customer and Amber field sales teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Management
- Manage and develop strategic relationships across cash & carry, convenience and impulse customers
- Deliver agreed volume, NSV and profitability targets across the channel
- Lead joint business planning, promotional negotiations and customer growth plans
- Build strong relationships with buying teams, depot managers, category teams and customer field sales teams
- Increase distribution across independent retail, convenience and symbol groups
- Drive retailer recruitment through depot activation and customer field sales engagement
- Identify new business opportunities across national, regional and independent cash & carry partners
- Channel Development
- Develop and execute channel specific growth plans for convenience and impulse
- Drive execution excellence across depot activity, stack outs, promotions and secondary displays
- Work closely with customer field sales teams to improve visibility, activation and rate of sale
- Support the development of channel specific packs, PMPs and promotional plans aligned to convenience shopper missions
- Identify opportunities linked to changing shopper behaviour and convenience trends
- Contribute ideas and recommendations to help shape Amber Beverage UK’s future convenience and impulse strategy
- Commercial Planning
- Build customer plans aligned to brand and channel priorities
- Manage customer P&Ls, promotional investment and depot pricing architecture
- Balance retailer margin, customer profitability and brand competitiveness
- Monitor sales performance, depletions and ROI across the customer base
- Use market data and insights to support customer presentations and selling stories
- Work closely with finance, demand planning and logistics teams on forecasting and promotional phasing
- Brand Building
- Work closely with brand teams on growth plans and activation priorities
- Support new product launches and customer activation programmes
- Build insight led customer presentations using market and shopper data
- Represent Amber Beverage UK professionally and confidently within the trade
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience managing cash & carry, convenience, impulse or route to market customers
- Strong understanding of UK convenience retail, impulse and cash & carry channels
- Experience working within branded FMCG, wines or spirits businesses
- Experience managing high volume, fast moving customer accounts
- Strong understanding of convenience retail dynamics and impulse shopper behaviour
- Commercially strong with experience managing pricing, promotions and P&Ls
- Strong relationship management and negotiation skills
- Results focused with a strong commercial mindset and high level of accountability
- Confident presenting internally and externally
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a fast moving entrepreneurial environment
