The Maintenance Assistant is part of the Technical Department at Milton Keynes Theatre. They are an integral part of the team responsible for the upkeep and safe operation of the building. Working in collaboration with all departments, the role reports to the Technical Manager. This role is key in assisting with carrying out and planning maintenance, project work, porterage and ensuring compliance with ATG guidelines and legislation, including the updating of relevant systems and records.
The postholder requires varying skills which mirror the Technical Teams ability to provide a wide skills base to our customers. This is a labour-intensive position and although lifting aides are available for certain tasks, the role requires movement of a lot of goods and equipment. This position is for a fixed term of 1 year working 16 hours per week. The hours being 8.30am to 12:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Key responsibilities:
- To adhere to all ATG Health and Safety procedures to minimise the risk of injury and accidents.
- To be trained in and adhere to safe systems of manual handling.
- To ensure appropriate PPE is worn as required.
- To attend relevant training courses as and when required.
- Be the first point of contact for external maintenance contractors.
- Assist with the weekly program of Health & Safety checks/record keeping in relation to fire alarm, water, seating, heating systems and other building checks.
- Undertake and/or ensure projects and maintenance tasks are completed to timescales agreed to the highest possible standards and within agreed budgets. Tasks will include decorating, plumbing, carpentry and other tasks within the employee's skills base.
- Ensure that all work is undertaken in a safe and appropriate manner complying with current best practice including licensing, fire, conservation and Health & Safety legislation and guidance.
- Assist in planning preventative work and reacting to arising issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain an overview on the general standard of housekeeping in the building. Report and action necessary work to ensure the highest standards of presentation possible. Regular tasks will involve assisting in the management of recycling and refuse.
- Ensure good housekeeping when projects are being undertaken.

- GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)
- Computer literate, proficient with Microsoft Word & Excel
- Previous experience with DIY and/or trades (preferably plumbing)

- Knowledge of Water Hygiene Legislation
