We are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors at varying levels, driving commercial performance and ensuring robust financial control across the business. This is a senior leadership role, acting as the primary commercial interface with clients, while working closely with operational teams to deliver projects efficiently, profitably, and in line with contractual obligations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping commercial strategy, improving processes, and driving long-term business success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors
- Work closely with the Pre-Contract Manager to identify and secure new business opportunities
- Collaborate with estimators to ensure pricing remains competitive while achieving margin targets
- Provide commercial support throughout the pre-contract and delivery phases
- Implement and maintain strict commercial controls and financial discipline
- Lead project cash flow management, ensuring timely applications, valuations, and payment resolution
- Manage change control, including compensation events, CE registers, and CEMAR
- Drive cost control initiatives and value engineering opportunities
- Produce turnover, margin budgets, and financial forecasts
- Lead contract negotiations and manage contractual documentation
- Review contract and sub-contract terms, ensuring risks are understood and effectively managed
- Resolve contractual disputes and manage claims where necessary
- Provide detailed commercial reporting to senior leadership, highlighting risks and opportunities
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and commercial best practice
What Weβre Looking For
- BSc / MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
- Extensive experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, ideally highways infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of NEC forms of contract
- Proven experience in commercial leadership and team management
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Highly organised, proactive, and commercially astute
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Full, clean UK driving licence
