Assistant Quantity Surveyor Location: Mansfield Salary: £30,000–£35,000(experience dependent) Role Summary We are looking for a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support our commercial team across a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone early in their QS career who is eager to develop, gain hands‑on experience, and progress towards full Quantity Surveyor responsibilities. You will work closely with senior commercial staff, assisting with cost control, valuations, procurement, and contract administration while building strong foundations for long‑term career growth. Key Responsibilities Assisting in the preparation of monthly, interim and final valuations Supporting applications for payment, cost reconciliations and certification for subcontractors and suppliers Helping maintain accurate cost records and supporting regular cashflow reviews Liaising with internal departments to ensure smooth commercial and financial processes Assisting with obtaining material and subcontract quotations Supporting the placement of supplier agreements and subcontract orders Helping monitor project costs, risks and opportunities Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams Supporting senior QS staff with contractual duties and NEC contract administration Contributing to tender support tasks when required Ensuring commercial activities align with company procedures and statutory requirements Maintaining awareness of safe working practices and HSQE standards About You Essential Criteria Degree (or working towards a degree) in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or a related construction discipline 1–2 years’ experience in a commercial or construction environment (placement year considered) Strong numerical and analytical skills Good communication and teamwork capability Understanding of civil engineering or infrastructure projects Willingness to learn NEC contract processes Full, clean UK driving licence Desirable Criteria Experience supporting valuations or cost reporting Exposure to water sector projects (clean water or wastewater) Membership or active pursuit of membership with RICS, ICES or similar
