The Amazon Reliability Maintenance and Engineering team keeps all our equipment in excellent working order, from printers to fully automated sortation systems. You will be looking after the automated systems within our buildings and the systems that interact with them from outside the Fulfillment Centre, helping with fault finding, leading process improvements, project delivery across multiple platforms and will be involved in the installation and commissioning of new equipment. You will be a key part of a highly skilled team and thrive in delivering high-quality results and always be on the lookout for improvements.
Key job responsibilities
- Ability to take the lead and be the subject matter expert within an Engineering Team
- Ability to develop code on different platforms
- Experience solving complex issues across Controls, Fieldbus and IT Platforms
- Proven ability to analyze metrics and leverage them for process optimization
- Working knowledge of Warehouse Control Systems and Telegrams
- Strong ability to communicate complex problems across business teams
- Run and lead FC and Regional Controls Project
- Experience in advising and steering Vendor projects
- Experience leading or being a signatory in a Change Management Process
- Being a point of technical reference and escalation for FC Controls Engineers, Engineering Teams, Operational Teams and other Business Stakeholders, within an FC, Hub of FC’s or Region
- Sound knowledge of Machine Safety Regulations and Safe Working Practices
- Driving and Developing Standards and Processes as part of a Regional initiative
- Experience working in National or International groups of Engineers
- Strong desire to develop themselves and other CSS within an FC, Hub of FC’s or Regional Group
- Identify Skill and Knowledge Gaps within Controls Teams
- Deliver technical and non-technical system training to different business groups
- Experience supporting or developing IT systems like IP Networks, Linux, SQL Databases and Cloud Technology

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will be looking after the automated systems within our Fulfilment Centres (FCs), helping with fault finding, leading process improvements and will be involved in the qualification, installation and commissioning of new equipment. Besides your day-to-day activities, you will be involved in domestic and regional projects. You will be a key part of a highly skilled team, thrive in delivering high-quality results and always be on the lookout for improvements.

The team is the foundation of our business and its efforts have helped us diversify across new regions and services. The CF team are the first people in the chain that helps customers get products at the speed we’re known for. We’re based in Fulfilment Centres, which are at the heart of Amazon’s fast-paced Operations network. Our Centres are sometimes referred to as the ‘First Mile’ because it’s where most Amazon packages start their journey. We help to manage dynamic inventory and facilitate speedy deliveries round the clock. Lots of different people work in our Fulfilment Centres, so there are plenty of opportunities for every skillset. Some of us work with physical products, while others analyse data to help everyone across the business make smart decisions.
Basic Qualifications
- PLC programming and implementation experience with one of the following: Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Modicon, Mitsubishi
- Experience with Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, CC-Link, AS-i, Profinet)
- Familiarity with ABB or/and Fanuc robots
- Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent
- Project management, organization and problem-solving skills (5W, Fishbone etc.)
- Advanced proficiency in written and verbal English; upper intermediate proficiency in written and verbal English
- Experience with AWCS and other Amazon sort technologies
- Strong understanding of PLC codes of one the Amazon Vendors (Dematic, VDL, TGW, SSI etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Czech Language
- Completed Master’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent
- Experience with SQL, Linux, Cloud Technology and IP Networking
- Knowledge of one of programming languages such as Python, JS, C, C++
- Understanding of industrial safety standards (e.g. ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 standards)
- Experience in a multi-site environment
