TOC (Transportation Operation Center) is the central command and control center for ‘Transportation Execution’ across the Amazon Supply Chain network supporting multiple geographies like NA, India, and EU. It ensures hassle-free, timely pick-up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FC) and from Amazon FCs to carrier hubs. In case of any exceptions, TOC intervenes to resolve issues and keeps all stakeholders informed. Additionally, TOC monitors network trends and analyzes data to automate processes or propose improvements, playing a critical role in ensuring smooth transportation operations that impact Amazon’s ability to serve customers on time.
Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist
A Trans Ops Specialist facilitates communication between stakeholders (Carriers, Hubs, Warehouses) and resolves issues affecting customer experience and business continuity. They work across two verticals – Inbound and Outbound operations.
- Inbound Operations: Manages Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring timely pick-up and delivery as scheduled. Addresses issues during the pick-up to delivery lifecycle.
- Outbound Operations: Manages FC/Carrier relationships, ensuring trucks leave on time to meet delivery promises. Addresses issues during freight transit from FC to customer.
The role requires quick resolution skills, data analysis, trend recognition, and the ability to drive customer experience without compromising on time. Basic logistics understanding and clear communication are essential, along with a proactive approach to process improvement.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Communicating with external customers (Carriers, Vendors) and internal teams (Retail, Finance, Support, FCs).
- Pulling data from databases using Excel, Access, SQL, and performing ad hoc analysis.
- Developing and understanding performance metrics to drive results.
- Scoping business and functional requirements for software enhancements.
- Assessing business impact of trends and making informed decisions.
- Escalating issues systematically and following through on resolutions.
- Working within time constraints to meet critical needs.
- Creating reports and presenting findings clearly.
- Providing real-time support in a 24/7 environment.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor\’s degree in a quantitative/technical field such as computer science, engineering, or statistics.
- Experience with Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SQL.
