Amazon is looking for world class scientists to join its Frontier AI & Robotics team. As a Sr Principal Scientist in this team, you will lead and support the development of Artificial Intelligence for Bipedal, Bi-Manual Humanoid Robots. You will collaborate with scientists and engineers to design new deep learning algorithms, refine model architectures, and explore reinforcement learning strategies to build general, flexible robots that operate effectively in the real world. Your work will balance forward-looking research with practical application, working closely with platform teams to deploy your models and algorithms into production, in order to ensure that our robotic systems are scalable and robust enough for our dynamic real-world environments. Your contributions will drive innovation in robotics at scale and help shape the future of AI in Amazon’s autonomous systems.
Key job responsibilities
For this new initiative, the key expectation is to be able to execute on both IC level (including ideation, coding, experimentation) and leadership level (setting general direction, recruiting and closely working with future team members).
A day in the life
The primary focus is to investigate and advance bipedal humanoid robotic capabilities with Amazon use cases in mind. This involves both mapping out and understanding Amazon use cases as well as (bulk of time) advancing capabilities.
About the team
Our mission is to push the boundaries of robotics by creating and deploying best-in-class AI agents that seamlessly integrate multimodal inputs like images, videos, catalog data, and sensor data in order to most effectively perceive as well as interact with the world. Our systems are deployed in real-world applications at scale, making scalability a core focus of our work. We combine simulated and real-world data to develop state-of-the-art robotics foundation models, leveraging pre-training and fine-tuning techniques to ensure our models are robust and capable of handling diverse deployment scenarios. Our team is small, but our ambitions are big. Above all, we value creativity, effective communication, and an ability to provide the insights that will move us toward our goals.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- Experience in publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in state-of-the-art deep learning models architecture design and deep learning training and optimization and model pruning
- Experience in robotics experimental work
- Experience in recruiting and leading teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in bipedal locomotion and dexterous manipulation research
