Operation Engineering Manager, Middle Mile & BIM (GES) – Operational Engineering

Amazon is seeking an experienced and business-oriented Operations Engineer to coordinate the planning, design, and execution efforts of highly complex logistic process solutions for the continued expansion of our EU Middle Mile Sortation network. Ideal candidates will have Engineering Program and Project Management experience combined with an established technical problem-solving ability as well as Value Engineering experience. The role will understand all aspects of an Amazon Sortation Center while focusing on its automation technologies (conveyance, sortation, robotics) and storage solutions. This person will be responsible for planning, designing, and delivering state-of-the-art material handling systems and innovations while coordinating internal teams and external vendors in order to effectively execute Retrofits, Initiatives and Expansions (REIs) in existing sites.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. End-to-end ownership for small to medium and large scale engineering projects (planning, design, installation, commissioning and qualification, launch support)
  2. Dive deep on technical details and provide value engineering and innovative solutions to drive frugality and continuous improvements
  3. Lead technical design reviews and propose design solutions for material handling and storage solutions that meet both business needs and global design standards
  4. Create, submit, and track relevant CAPEX requests (Capital Planning) to ensure that all projects are delivered within budget and best overall value
  5. Assess and communicate project status, drive escalations on potential risks and delays across multiple teams
  6. Assist in providing equipment specifications and technical support to Procurement, Change Management, and other business partners for best value and competition
  7. Collaborate closely with various internal teams such as World Wide Engineering, Construction, Operations, Reliability Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, and Change Management
  8. Support standardisation, qualification and launch of external Sortation sites, while closely collaborating with Amazon’s Transportation Services (ATS) business partners.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience interacting with cross-functional teams & subject-matter experts
  • Proven Project/Program Management experience in comparable industrial environments
  • Experience using MS Excel, CAD/BIM related software, MS Project
  • Advanced proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Flexibility to travel up to 50% across projects in Europe
  • Knowledge about automated material handling systems, packaging technologies, and storage solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Project execution experience in a construction environment (new build) or operational environment (buildout)
  • Ability to lead internal teams to deliver cross-functional programs and manage vendor relations
  • Comprehensive understanding of operational as well as reliability and maintenance processes including relevant software tools
  • German, French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
