The Global Engineering, Materials and Sustainability Team has a full training plan and support network to help you grow and succeed within this role.

The Ops planning team is seeking an experienced Amazon Simulations and Optimization engineer to join the team to support the expansion of simulations engineering in Europe. The Simulations and Optimization engineer is a key player in the end-to-end delivery of the complex challenge of launching new buildings – or optimizing existing buildings, driving improvements and standards to enable new sites to achieve benchmark rates while ramping to meet network capacity.

In this role, you will influence a team comprising of Site Leads, Senior Operations Managers, Operation Managers, Project Managers, Process SMEs, Design Engineers and representatives of various key stakeholders. Furthermore, the team is expanding to support international expansion, working across EU, Middle East and North Africa, India, LATAM, Australia. We collaborate with colleagues in North America to maintain global excellence in simulation services and models.

This role calls for an individual who is knowledgeable concerning project management, operations, structured, confident and professionally and socially adept to earn credibility and trust with customers and stakeholders at various levels of the organization. This position involves up to 50% travel throughout EMEA, connecting with our operations and corporate offices across the region.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Will have the ability to deal and deliver results in an ambiguous environment concerning sites Operations and Yard.
  • Is able to support infrastructure and flow related simulations to derive infrastructure requirements.
  • Is able to provide design inputs based on data driven methodology.
  • Interpersonal skills, to motivate and lead expectations and outcomes to project team.
  • Communication skills to build relationships and identify with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Is able to use their initiative and make decisions under pressure.
  • Has the ability to seek opportunities to drive year on year savings and performance/process improvements.
  • Will compile, manage and report on weekly project metrics and be responsible for leading many high-profile meetings to align on project requirements.
  • Working backwards from True North processes and available data to close the gaps from current to desired state.
  • Create Material Flow Diagrams.
  • Provide data driven process and engineering related advice to the leadership by written narrative business document.
  • Has the ability to learn and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Has Fulfillment Center and/or Sort Center operational skills.

A day in the life:

In cooperation with other Global Engineering Services stakeholders, including but not limited to Worldwide Real Estate & Design (WWRE & Design), Amazon Customer Excellence System / Process Engineering (ACES/PE), Amazon Robotics (AR), Ops, and others the team aims to optimize building designs, modules, and processes, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and Associates experience related to sites innovation and design. They will ensure our future buildings, retrofits and expansions will both attend to the operational excellence requirements and have frugal solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in quantitative disciplines such as Computer Science, Engineering and Economics.
  • Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
  • Experience in capital project management involving ownership/management of engineering design projects.
  • Experience with concepts such as system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
  • Experience in management of engineering design projects.
  • Experience using business or technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English at C1 level or above.
  • Experience building and running simulations using tools such as Siemens Plant Simulation X, AnyLogic, or Emulated 3D.
  • Experience with automated material handling equipment (e.g., conveyors, sortation systems), packaging technologies, and high-speed manufacturing systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing cool chains, refrigeration equipment and installations, temperature-controlled environments are considered a strong plus.
  • French, German, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Chinese (Mandarin), Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering (any discipline), simulation engineering for Operations, or a related field.
