AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

As the Global Constructability Lead, you will leverage your deep understanding of data center infrastructure system designs and construction methodologies to solve complex engineering challenges across multiple builds and AWS’s global regions. You will work independently on undefined technical problems, driving standards and quality improvements while influencing priorities and system design decisions. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering integrated solutions that extend infrastructure lifecycle, remove construction barriers, and have far-reaching impacts on partner teams. You will be expected to make technical trade-offs between short-term project needs and long-term business requirements, while continuously driving engineering, testing, and operational excellence improvements. Your extensive knowledge of infrastructure system architecture, construction methodologies, and civil engineering principles will be instrumental in implementing and standardizing pre-construction best practices, ultimately shaping the future of Amazon's global data center construction methodology.

Key job responsibilities

  • Review design documents and provide input to design engineers on global standards and data center designs.
  • Act as the point of escalation for complex constructability issues.
  • Perform civil evaluations for potential sites.
  • Financial analysis of construction methods and design alternatives.
  • Constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization of existing data centers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience understanding electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, or air handling units
  • Experience in construction of data center delivery (design, commissioning and construction), mission critical facilities, or equivalent industrial/manufacturing facility builds
  • Experience performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presenting the justification to management in a high-level review
  • Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience working with customers with a passion for delivering exceptional service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
  • Proven track record in creating and releasing high quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards, tools, and procedures.
  • Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, Program Management Professional (PMP), and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
  • Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers/critical infrastructure or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants.
