We seek a full-time Senior Work Health & Safety Specialist (SWHSS) to serve as the safety professional for our Amazon Logistics (AMZL) sites in Australia. This role coordinates and implements the Amazon Global Safety Program under safety leadership guidance, promoting a positive safety culture while ensuring compliance with Amazon safety standards.
The position involves building safety programs, conducting training, and coaching associates on workplace safety practices. The SWHSS must communicate clearly and consistently in both verbal and written forms. The role involves training operations leaders and WHS team members in Amazon policies and procedures, while helping operations teams implement these standards at their sites. You will identify and incorporate best practices into our standard methodologies for continuous improvement. Your safety program expertise will directly support Operations teams in maintaining workplace safety.
This position leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce safety and ergonomic risks, ensuring a healthy working environment for our Associates. The role requires comprehensive risk assessments and data analysis to drive change and build trust with the Operations Team. You will support the Senior WHS Manager in developing procedures, maintaining compliance calendars, reviewing documentation, and establishing inspection programs that meet local requirements and Amazon Global Environmental Management System (GEMS) standards. The position supports all Australian AMZL sites and requires travel between locations. Work schedules may include alternating shifts. We seek an experienced professional with proven WHS expertise and a passion for injury prevention. Key job responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance with Amazon's Workplace Health & Safety policies and global standards. This involves completing risk assessments, auditing sites, providing targeted training and analysing safety metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Assisting the Senior WHS Manager to ensure delivery of WHS performance in line with personal, team and functional goals and objectives, programs and projects.
- Driving the development and implementation of programs specific to WHS and injury prevention across AMZL.
- Ensuring that WHS systems are kept accurate, with metrics compiled on key data points to help the Senior WHS Manager prepare/issue regular and ad hoc reports and metric documents.
- Supporting the business to ensure compliance to State and Australian WHS legislation.
- Assisting the Senior WHS Manager with the construction of incident prevention programs, contributing to operational requests to improve on site Safety and positively impact accident trends as well as facilitating incident investigation processes.
- Coordinating, training and coaching team members as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of workplace health & safety (WHS) related field experience
- Bachelor's degree or above
- Knowledge of Australian Workplace/Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in warehouse operations and logistics or equivalent
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment
- Experience working with workers' compensation
- Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues in the workplace
- Membership of relevant professional Association, i.e. Australian Institute of Health and Safety
- Experience in emergency response
