The Data Center Global Services team is looking for a Controls Engineer for Construction (BMS/EPMS), responsible for the building automation systems within Amazon data centers to join our EMEA team. Our Control Engineers' technical background across project/construction management, mechanical, electrical or technology background enables them to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms to strategically align building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business. They work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.

Controls Engineers in AWS deploy, maintain BMS (Building Management System) & EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System) across our leased/colocation data centers. They co-ordinate with AWS DCEO (Data Center Engineering Operations) teams to implement new builds, upgrades etc., and ensure high availability and high resiliency of these control systems.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.
  • Manage scopes of work relative to the site specifics and customer needs.
  • Manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs.
  • Read and interpret specifications and implement those specifications as they apply to the work environment.
  • Develop control panel BOMs.
  • Develop ISA data sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters along with ISA data sheets for control valves, positioners, analytical, and various other types of instrumentation.
  • Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes, including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System. Prepare cable routing plans and schedules.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and commissioning of the facility systems.
  • Coordinate project work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support other regions.

A Controls Engineer's day may begin with deployment efforts including on-site management works, directing Controls vendors for installation/commissioning works and is responsible for quality and on-time delivery of the tasks/project. While managing service works, the Controls Engineer will co-ordinate with Operations teams for permits and engage Vendor or perform services confirming to the task lists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Experience in data center engineering or operations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience in construction, or experience in project management.
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, or controls field.
  • Experience as a general contractor and in vendor management associated with construction and project execution.
  • 3+ years of on-site experience with industrial controls in critical environments (data center, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, petrochemical, etc.), designing, configuring, installing, and/or servicing.
