AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access to our customers. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for Data Centers in AWS Cloud regions. Our technicians operate and maintain world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and the role includes overseeing facility operations and implementing safety procedures.

The role requires a motivated, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions while striving for operational excellence. The work follows a process-oriented approach with a willingness to learn new processes and adapt to changing priorities.

The successful candidate will be part of the Engineering and Facilities team and will be responsible for maintaining availability for customers, ensuring maintenance and operation of technical infrastructure, and the upkeep and operation of the DC facility.

Responsibilities

• Safety: follow and maintain the highest safety standards; encourage a world-class safety culture; own safety initiatives and projects to foster a strong safety culture.
• Engineering & Facility Operations and Maintenance: operate and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment, including UPS, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATS, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
• Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log-taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
• Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
• Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required.
• Ability to work shifts (morning, late, and night).
• On-call rotation in response to off-duty emergency calls.

Basic Qualifications

• City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC, Controls) or knowledge and experience of key electrical competencies and theory

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of data center engineering operations experience
