Are you a technical professional interested in joining an elite team and learning the skills necessary to maintain one of the world’s largest information system infrastructures? If so, we are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for proven technology managers with experience in people management, strong technical understanding, and the drive to take AWS Data Centre Operations to the next level.

We are looking for a people manager who can collaborate, lead, and mentor a team of skilled Data Centre Technicians with a variety of skills. You will be responsible for Data Centre operations with a focus on continuous improvement to ensure we continue to deliver the highest level of service to our customers.

The successful candidate will have experience creating/devising strategies, mentoring people at all levels, sponsoring projects, and proposing technical solutions. This position involves leading teams in hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair and includes participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates should be willing to work both independently and manage their teams effectively. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful. In addition to strong knowledge in Data Centres, hardware, and network repair, candidates will create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level project work, and fix complex problems within the Data Centre Space. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7.

A day in the life

DCO Managers are front-line leaders that ensure all aspects of our hardware and network systems are operational within our Data Centre sites. You will guide a team of technical professionals to support this endeavor, along with frequent engagement in the following activities:

  1. Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data centre technicians and operators, and routinely review the ticket queue for large events and address accordingly.
  2. Guide, train, and educate data operations technicians on best practices related to all service owner issues.
  3. Manage and deliver mid-size projects.
  4. Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and required SLAs.
  5. Manage a diverse team of data technicians with varying skills.
  6. Maintain the on-call schedule coordinating absence and vacations.
  7. Recruit and train data technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  8. Write and deliver performance reviews for staff.
  9. Constantly improve all our processes and procedures. We believe there is nothing we cannot improve!
  10. Assist & manage relationships with external vendors & contractors.
  11. Ensure we adhere to and exceed local Health & Safety standards in all our Data Centres.
  12. Create and maintain metrics of all aspects of our Data Centres and utilize those metrics to drive positive improvements.
  13. Assist in implementing service methodologies that include incident management, problem management, change management, and capacity management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* 4+ years of people management experience with direct reports in an IT related field
* 4+ years experience in managing IT systems
* In-depth knowledge and understanding of change concepts, problem, and incident management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent professional or military experience.
* Project Management experience.
* Linux/UNIX certification and/or administration experience.
* Hardware architectures knowledge and troubleshooting experience.
