Description

Amazon Web Services is one of the fastest-growing businesses within Amazon, continually expanding its product offerings and geographic footprint across EMEA.

We're looking for a Tax Manager to join our EMEA Tax Department in London and provide corporation tax advisory support to the AWS cloud computing business.

This is a broad advisory role with genuine variety — you'll work across multiple jurisdictions, navigate the intersection of corporate tax with withholding, indirect, transfer pricing and other tax disciplines, and partner closely with both the tax team and the wider AWS business.

You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy while remaining well-connected to a collaborative, knowledgeable team.

There's also scope to get involved in ad-hoc enquiries and support during audits.

At Amazon, we believe that in-person collaboration is essential to our culture and innovation.

While we allow flexibility for personal circumstances, we generally expect employees to work from our offices five days a week.

This approach has consistently shown that spontaneous interactions, rapid problem-solving, and the energy of in-person teamwork lead to better results for our customers.

In particular, our data shows that teams working together in person are more effective at making complex decisions, onboarding new team members, and fostering the kind of creative collaboration that has driven Amazon’s success.

The serendipitous hallway conversations and impromptu whiteboarding sessions that happen naturally in an office environment have proved invaluable to our invention process and maintaining our high bar for excellence.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate tax requirements for country expansions and new programme launches across EMEA.
  • Provide practical, clear tax guidance to the business — building relationships that ensure ongoing adherence.
  • Support ad-hoc projects such as restructurings or transactions involving the AWS business.
  • Research international tax issues and work with external advisers where needed to support business initiatives.
  • Engage with outside tax advisors to deliver on tax projects.
  • About The Team

AWS offers a broad set of global cloud-based products including compute, storage, databases, analytics, networking, mobile, developer tools, management tools, Internet of Things, security and enterprise applications.

These services help organisations move faster, lower IT costs, and scale.

AWS is trusted by the largest enterprises and the hottest start-ups to power a wide variety of workloads including: web and mobile applications, game development, data processing and warehousing, storage, archive, and many others.

In addition, AWS offers a variety of support services to help customers in deploying AWS services, as well as a comprehensive training and certification programme.

Finally, AWS also offers a Marketplace, enabling customers to locate, buy and immediately use digital products sold by third-party sellers.

  • Basic Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
  • Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
  • Experience working in a multi-national corporate tax department
  • Bachelor's degree or alternative relevant business qualifications (eg Chartered Tax Adviser, ACCA, CIMA, etc.) or relevant experience / qualification with Tax Authorities
  • Demonstrable experience in indirect tax, preferably in the EU (experience gained in advisory, rather than compliance)
  • Experience gained working in a business involved in multinational activities (ie not just domestic) within an indirect tax function or a legal or accountancy firm, or tax authorities with exposure to multinational taxpayers / cross-border transactions.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with VBA, Python, SQL, or other database language
  • CPA, or J. D.
  • Experience in managing multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
  • Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to understand processes and systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, informal and often ambiguous environment.
