A unique opportunity to join AWS as a Data Centre Technician. You will become the primary resolver for your support team, gain troubleshooting skills on one or more operating systems, and troubleshoot and solve most infrastructure issues. Issues are escalated to appropriate resolver groups when necessary. You will create and maintain documentation on supported technologies and convey SOPs to junior staff.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high level of system reliability by prioritising and resolving trouble tickets efficiently. Act as escalation point and technical troubleshooter for all systems and problems. Deep dive into Linux server issues. XEN service virtualization troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues on platforms ranging from systems to power/mechanical. Remediate physical layer outages (systems & network). Remediate or recover physical power issues on racks. Participate in data center power & cooling events.
  • Meet 24x7 on-call requirements and respond during shift rotations. Install & configure racks of hosts in line with internal SLAs. Triage & resolve trouble tickets for all devices in your region. Serve as data center point of contact for high-severity issues. Physically replace server and network device parts. Ensure correct rotation of parts & spares. Help define metrics to increase customer uptime. Enforce Amazon’s security best practices. Interact with third-party vendors & contractors. Contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency.
  • Participate in and deliver on high-impact small to mid-scale projects. Participate in team meetings for metric analysis and project status updates. Help build the world’s largest Cloud infrastructure.
  • Share knowledge and help educate less technical staff on best practices related to service ownership issues.

A day in the life

Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within SLAs. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures. Adhere to safety procedures. Respond to off-hour emergency calls during on-call rotations. Comply with physical security procedures and policies.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in computer networking
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems
  • Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds
  • Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work in cramped spaces or elevated locations while following health & safety guidelines
  • Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and working under pressure
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
  • Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
  • Experience in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment)
