AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for Data Centers (DC) in AWS Cloud regions. Our technicians operate and maintain AWS DCs’ world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure. In addition to technical operations and maintenance, the role will oversee facility operations and ensure the implementation of safety procedures. The role requires a motivated, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems while striving for operational excellence. The work follows a process-oriented approach: the individual needs a strong willingness to learn new processes and adapt to rapidly changing operational scenarios with conflicting priorities. The successful candidate will be part of the Engineering and Facilities team and will be responsible for maintaining availability for customers; ensuring maintenance and operation of technical infrastructure; and the upkeep and operation of the DC facility.
Key job responsibilities
- Safety - Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world-class safety culture. As a facility owner team, ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams. Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster strong safety culture.
- Engineering & Facility Operations and Maintenance - Operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including UPS, Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and Transformers.
- Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log-taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
- Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required.
- Ability to work shifts (morning, late and night).
- On-call rotation response to off-duty emergency calls.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC, Controls) or knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of data center engineering operations experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or equivalent engineering.
