Amazon Publishing is seeking a data-driven, author- and reader-obsessed leader to fill the position of Business Analyst. The successful candidate will be thoughtful, analytical, and have a demonstrated ability to effectively influence the decisions of senior business leaders through clear verbal and written communication, analysis, logical reasoning, and the presentation of alternatives. While the area of focus is Marketing, a holistic understanding of our business drivers and the ability to synthesize them to deliver business recommendations are key. The role operates in a fast-paced, global, results-oriented environment, and provides decision support and advice for Amazon Publishing leaders.
Amazon Publishing is the full-service publishing arm of Amazon. We publish emerging, bestselling and critically-acclaimed authors in digital, print, and audio formats. Our mission is to invent new avenues for connecting authors and readers worldwide.
Key job responsibilities
- Enable effective decision making by retrieving and aggregating data from multiple sources and compiling it into an automated and actionable format.
- Partner with internal and external teams to create new metrics and methodologies to deep dive and measure the success of initiatives and programs.
- Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions.
- Design, develop and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, etc. that will support our business needs.
- Strong SQL and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders and leaders.
- Identify areas of opportunity to automate and scale ad-hoc analyses.
- Develop think big ideas to drive customer insights, engagement acquisition and retention.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in Amazon Redshift and other AWS technologies.
- Experience with Tableau, Quicksight or a similar data visualization tool.
- Analytical mindset and ability to see the big picture and influence others.
- Detail-oriented and must have an aptitude for solving unstructured problems. The role will require the ability to extract data from various sources and to design/construct/execute complex analyses to finally come up with data/reports that help solve the business problem.
- Good oral, written and presentation skills combined with the ability to be part of group discussions and explaining complex solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-task, high volume environment.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible in responding to deadlines and workflow fluctuations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables).
- Experience using Microsoft Excel to manipulate and analyze data.
- Experience building, executing and scaling cross-functional programs or marketing campaigns from concept to completion.
- Experience using data and metrics to measure impact and determine improvements.
- Experience in marketing or marketing research.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience utilizing systems and tools involving email, web, analytics, and CRM (Marketo, Tableau, Salesforce, etc.) for targeting, segmentation, reporting for demand generation.
