Last Mile Engineering is seeking an innovative and solutions-oriented engineering project leader to lead initiatives developing and delivering next generation, world-class Last Mile transportation systems. This role focuses on designing the next generation of delivery stations and logistics systems across the globe, with a high level of ownership in solving complex problems involving automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and robotics. The role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and global stakeholders.
This highly visible, cross-functional role requires effective collaboration and efficient communication with multiple teams (Product, Tech, Program, Finance, Legal, SMEs, Local Ops, GP, etc.) and global stakeholders. The candidate should proactively understand and communicate critical business needs and translate them into solutions. The position requires experience building long-term strategic relationships and becoming influential partners, with frequent verbal and written communication on status, risks, and the sourcing pipeline.
This role is well suited for a professional team player who is flexible and comfortable with ambiguity. The successful applicant will merge strong technical depth with strong communication skills. The engineer will have a strong business and project management background and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, balancing opposing priorities. They will lead programs across teams and be willing to dive into the details to ensure the right inputs are top of mind for customers and stakeholders. To be successful, you will influence and work with senior leaders across multiple organizations and geographies, including Worldwide Engineering and Design, WW Tech SME, Last Mile Delivery and Tech as well as Operations to innovate at scale and drive the development roadmap.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the delivery station network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Track existing and set up new metrics as required to validate vendor and team performance.
- Report on performance in weekly and monthly forums with partner teams and senior leadership.
- Set measurable targets that align with the overall goals of the organization.
- Comprehend the technical requirements of internal customers and become an expert in the field.
- Identify opportunities and influence organizations to gain support and overcome resistance with data and persuasion.
- Provide experienced guidance overseeing partner teams through good judgment, data, and outcomes.
- Deliver end-to-end technology and vendor operations projects, navigating obstacles to complete the work.
- Communicate with senior leadership, set expectations, and write data-oriented proposals; perform data examination as necessary.
- Apply exceptional problem-solving skills to difficult tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; strong technical background in automated or non-automated material handling equipment.
- Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field (preferred).
- Experience in lean management, Six Sigma, and other operations engineering tools.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
