If you are seeking an environment where you can drive innovation, apply state‑of‑the‑art technologies to solve real world delivery challenges, and provide benefits to customers, Prime Air is the place for you.
Prime Air drone delivery sites operate inside or alongside existing Amazon buildings: fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery stations.
Amazon Prime Air is seeking an experienced program manager to decide where and how Prime Air fits into each of those buildings across Europe.
As the design and integration lead for the European expansion programme, you will lead the test fits for candidate sites with GES and design teams, provide the design inputs to each site’s business case, work with Amazon’s GES design and construction teams to turn the chosen option into a final design and permit set, and work with each site’s operations leadership to integrate Prime Air into a live operation without disrupting it.
You will hand each signed‑off, permitted design to the Expansion Program Manager (Site Launch) who builds and launches the site.
Prime Air is expanding drone delivery across Europe, and every new site starts with a test fit.
- Key job responsibilities
- Lead and review test fits for candidate host sites with GES and their designers, assessing where the drone delivery centre, launch pads, charging and support areas can sit within or alongside the building, and present the options, constraints and trade‑offs that inform the site decision
- Partner with Amazon GES and their architects to take the selected test fit through to final design, ensuring the design meets Prime Air’s site requirements and standards
- Lead pre‑construction due diligence for candidate sites, including site surveys, landlord, planning and other consents, and feasibility sign‑off from host business lines, and provide design inputs to the Regulatory team for site aviation approvals
- Provide the design scope, cost estimate and schedule inputs to each site’s business case and capital request
- Coordinate permit documentation with GES and local consultants, so that permits are in place for the build to start on schedule
- Work with host site operations leadership to integrate Prime Air into the live operation, including package induction and flow from the host operation to the drone delivery centre, shared dock, yard and building access, and the impact on host site throughput
- Build safety and compliance into each design, including pedestrian and vehicle segregation, lithium battery storage and fire separation, emergency egress and pad safety zones, working with Prime Air Safety and Amazon Workplace Health & Safety
- Define the site systems interfaces in the design, including the space, power, network, mounting and roof or mast access for IT, antennas and other site technology, with Prime Air engineering, product support engineering and IT teams.
The Expansion Program Manager (Site Launch) then owns the equipment specification, ordering and installation
- Own design sign‑off for every site in the European programme and hand over a complete, signed‑off and permitted design package to the Expansion Program Manager (Site Launch) assigned to the site
- Own the design milestones for every site, from candidate site to design hand‑off, within the master programme schedule, tracking risks and changes and reporting them clearly to leadership
- Support design changes and resolve design queries during the build, through to launch
- Lead updates to the European site design standard and test‑fit playbook, feeding in what each site teaches us
- Travel up to 30% to candidate and live sites across the UK and the EU
- Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related technical field
- 5+ years of program management experience in design and pre‑construction, construction, facility layout or launch design
- Experience leading or reviewing site layouts or test fits for logistics, manufacturing or industrial facilities through to an approved design
- Experience integrating new processes or equipment into a live operation, working alongside operations leadership
- Experience working with architects, engineers and construction teams to take a design from concept to build‑ready
- Experience using data to present design options and trade‑offs to senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical or civil engineering, architecture or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Business fluency in English (C1 or above)
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Amazon fulfilment centre, sort centre or delivery station layout, launch design or GES projects
- Experience with pre‑construction activities such as site surveys, landlord approvals or permit documentation
- Experience deploying new technology into an Amazon Robotic Sortable fulfilment centre
- Proficiency with CAD and layout tools such as Auto CAD or Revit
- Experience with material flow, package handling or conveyance design
- Knowledge of building, fire and workplace safety requirements for battery storage or hazardous materials
- Knowledge of building, planning and fire codes in the European countries where we operate
- Experience with aviation, airport or other regulated facilities
- Experience working on projects in more than one European country
- Working proficiency in a second European language
