Overview of position

We are seeking a highly organised and analytical Insurance Manager specialising in Automotive Aftersales. The successful candidate will oversee insurance operations related to vehicle service and parts, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead insurance processes, optimise claims management, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the aftersales department. The position is paid and suitable for individuals with a keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills.

  • Oversee the Parts process and ensure that savings for parts supply are maximised for the benefit of the Company plus support future strategy and objectives.
  • Oversee the audit of dealers through the CQA team, pinpointing the dealers that require audit and ensuring a schedule of dealer audits is planned and the CQA audit team are efficiently organised.
  • Manage a small team of underwriters.
  • Some travel required including overseas to facilitate audits.

Key job functions

  • To be the technical ‘go to’ expert on technical vehicle queries that the underwriting team may have. Maintain wide industry knowledge of vehicles and mechanical issues.
  • Ensure all underwriting philosophies and procedures are followed according to Company and market conditions.
  • Proactively manage relationships and communications with claims administrators to promote improvements to risk management.
  • Manage customer complaints through to resolution and act as point of contact for Financial Ombudsman Service.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess suitability for vehicle storage.
  • Monitor the performance of dealers and identify audit opportunities. Take full ownership of the Audit Programme. Proactively manage the programme to ensure that Underwriting Managers understand the business imperative and influence the Underwriting Managers to make sure audits take place according to the timetable planned and agreed with the CUO.
  • Ensure the audit process constantly evolves in a dynamic way to keep pace with business needs.
  • Take opportunities to liaise with colleagues in other parts of the business to get feedback on personal performance.
  • Proactively liaise with all stakeholders prior to audits to ensure that key areas are focused on during the audit. Ensure that the audits are thorough and that all areas of weakness are identified and that recommended actions are well thought through and have high intellectual rigour.
  • Highlight the key action points and follow up on a regular basis to ensure that they have been implemented with the result that we have made change happen. If actions have not been implemented in accordance with agreed timescales challenge the business to resolve them.
  • Provide reports on audits, parts savings and registration audits to the Coverholder Oversight Committee.
  • To respond to all internal and external underwriting and claims related queries relating to programmes and to involve other Departments (e.g. Claims or Actuarial / Pricing) as necessary before issuing a response.
  • Ensure that personnel are adequately managed with 1-2-1s, development plans and succession plans in place for the teams you are responsible for.
  • Constantly review the adequacy of resource and people plans for the areas for which you are responsible.

Qualifications, experience required.

  • Experience in Automotive Management especially in the Aftersales Market, bachelor’s degree in business management (preferred).
  • Must be at least NVQ level 3 Qualified in vehicle maintenance and repair, Senior or Master technician preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in claims and administration environment is essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of claims handling of Aftersales insured products is strongly desirable.
  • Knowledge of FCA regulation, FOS procedures, Conduct Risk, TCF and other relevant regulation is essential.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Complex decision making on complex customer and claims issues; essential.
    • The motor trade and knowledge of how motor vehicles work, is essential.
    • Financial acumen relating to insurance performance on an underwriting and financial year basis; is desirable.
  • MS Office competence is essential.
