About the Role

  • Full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours per week)
  • Day shifts (8:45-17:15), Monday to Friday
  • Occasional bank holiday working on a rotational basis
  • Location: Medway and Maidstone
  • Pay: £26,227.50 per annum (£13.45 per hour)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out reactive and planned painting and decorating works across AMAT's accommodation portfolio and office locations.
  • Prepare surfaces for decoration, including filling, bonding, skimming, dry lining (dot and dab), and minor repairs.
  • Apply paints, finishes, and wallpaper to a high standard in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, communal areas, and void properties.
  • Complete occasional void room refurbishments and redecoration works within agreed timescales.
  • Assess work requirements and identify the materials, tools, and equipment needed for each job.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organised working environments, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Keep accurate records of completed works and communicate progress effectively using electronic systems.
  • Maintain stock levels, tools, equipment, and storage areas, ensuring all items are secure and well organised.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Maintenance Team to ensure properties are maintained to a high standard.
  • Report maintenance issues, health and safety concerns, and equipment defects promptly.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a skilled and reliable Painter & Decorator who takes pride in their work and is committed to delivering high-quality results. The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised Painting and Decorating qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience carrying out painting and decorating work using a range of techniques and finishes
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements within a maintenance environment
  • Strong communication skills and confidence using basic IT systems
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work to deadlines
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative, while also working effectively as part of a team
  • A reliable, flexible and professional approach to work
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and a commitment to supporting AMAT's mission through the quality of their work

Desirable

  • Current CSCS Card
  • Health and Safety qualification
  • Experience working within the housing, supported accommodation, charity or voluntary sector
  • Experience working in a property maintenance environment
  • Experience working in settings where individuals may present challenging behaviours

Additional information:

  • A full manual UK driving licence is essential
  • Company van for work use only (vehicle is kept on site overnight)
  • All tools, equipment and PPE provided
  • DBS check required
