Year 1 Teaching Assistant - Stockton-on-Tees & Surrounding Areas
Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Stockton-on-Tees and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistants to join schools from September 2026.
Whether you're an experienced Teaching Assistant, hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, or have recent experience supporting children within a Primary School setting, we'd love to hear from you.
We have a range of long-term, full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting children's learning and development, helping to create a positive, engaging and inclusive classroom environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging learning activities across the Year 1 curriculum.
- Provide targeted support to pupils during phonics, early reading, writing and maths activities.
- Encourage children's confidence, independence and engagement with their learning.
- Work with individuals and small groups to support learning and development.
- Observe and monitor pupils' progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
- Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a calm and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support children with SEND where required.
- Assist with personal care where necessary.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and school staff.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
- Previous experience working within a Primary School or Year 1 setting.
- Experience supporting phonics, early reading, writing or maths is desirable.
- A good understanding of the needs of children in Key Stage 1.
- A caring, patient and nurturing approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting salary will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience and the requirements of the assignment.
