Make a Difference Beyond the Classroom
Milk Alternative, part of Milk Education, supports young people who need a different route to learning. We are currently seeking passionate and experienced ESOL Tutors to deliver personalised, one-to-one tuition to pupils across Liverpool.
This is a rewarding opportunity to help young people develop their English language skills, build confidence and access meaningful educational opportunities. You will play an important role in supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning, improve their communication skills and make progress towards their individual goals.
All tuition will take place within school settings across Liverpool, after school hours. This role is ideal for a tutor looking for flexible, after-school work who is passionate about helping young people reach their potential.
You will work on a 1:1 basis with pupils who may have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) or other barriers to education. You will plan and deliver engaging, tailored ESOL sessions that respond to each pupil's individual needs, English language proficiency and learning objectives.
Pupils may come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, with Arabic, Kurdish or Sorani potentially being their first language. Experience supporting multilingual learners and pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) would therefore be highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, personalised ESOL lessons that reflect each pupil's individual needs and learning goals.
- Develop pupils' English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
- Adapt teaching strategies and resources to accommodate different language proficiency levels and additional learning needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage confidence, engagement and participation.
- Support pupils who are developing English as an Additional Language (EAL), helping them strengthen their communication skills and independence.
- Monitor, assess and record progress against agreed learning outcomes.
- Provide regular weekly feedback on pupil engagement, development and progress.
- Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment within school settings.
- Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the welfare of every pupil.
Essential Skills and Experience
We are looking for patient, adaptable and enthusiastic tutors who are committed to helping young people succeed.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience teaching or tutoring ESOL learners.
- Experience planning and delivering your own lessons.
- Experience supporting pupils with additional needs, including SEND, SEMH or EBSA.
- The ability to adapt your teaching approach to suit individual learning needs and abilities.
- Experience working with pupils from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive 1:1 relationships.
- A recognised TEFL, TESOL, ESOL or other relevant teaching qualification would be desirable.
- Experience supporting learners whose first language is Arabic, Kurdish and/or Sorani would be an advantage.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
