Are you a Drama graduate or aspiring Drama Therapist who believes in the power of creative expression to unlock communication? Do you want to help verbal and non-verbal children find their voice—through movement, role-play, and imagination? We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants for a specialist school in Maidenhead, supporting pupils aged 5-16 with autism, physical disabilities, sensory differences, and complex communication needs. This is a unique opportunity to use drama-based approaches to build trust, encourage self-expression, and support emotional regulation in a safe, creative space.
Why Drama Therapy?

- Movement and gesture
- Visual and sensory cues
- Non-verbal or reduced-verbal expression
- AAC, Makaton, or symbols
Your Drama background will enable you to:
- Build trust through play, mirroring, and improvisation
- Encourage engagement using role-play and creative prompts
- Support emotional understanding in an imaginative, non-judgemental space
- Interpret communication through body language and sensory cues
Your Responsibilities
- Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups using drama-based activities
- Use creative approaches to promote communication and social interaction
- Support emotional regulation and independence through expressive arts
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and SENCOs to deliver individual plans
- Contribute to a calm, safe, and engaging learning environment
- Assist with personal care where required (full training provided)
Who We're Looking For
No school experience required—your creativity, compassion, and willingness to learn matter most. We'd love to hear from you if you:
- Have a Drama / Performing Arts background or experience delivering creative activities
- Are interested in a career in Drama Therapy or Creative Arts Therapy
- Can build positive relationships through movement, expression, and play
- Are patient, calm, and resilient when challenges arise
- Are comfortable supporting with personal care when required
