Teaching Assistant - Secondary School in Bury

Milk Education are working with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Bury who are looking for a motivated, reliable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their team ASAP.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and supporting young people to succeed. The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant who can provide effective classroom support, build positive relationships with students and help create a calm, focused and engaging learning environment.

You will work closely with teachers and the wider school support team to help students access the curriculum, stay engaged with their learning and make positive academic and personal progress.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in behaviour management, confident working with secondary-aged students and able to establish positive professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.

The school welcomes applications from experienced Teaching Assistants, graduates and candidates with transferable experience from education, youth work, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, care or similar settings.

Your Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work alongside classroom teachers to support effective teaching and learning
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students where required
  • Support students to access the secondary school curriculum and complete classroom activities
  • Help students understand instructions and remain focused and engaged during lessons
  • Support students in developing their confidence, independence and study skills
  • Provide targeted support with literacy, numeracy and general learning where required
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and promote positive attitudes towards learning
  • Use effective and consistent behaviour management strategies to maintain a calm and purposeful learning environment
  • Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining high expectations
  • Build positive, professional and trusting relationships with students
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, behaviour and progress
  • Provide encouragement, reassurance and appropriate pastoral support
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and remain motivated
  • Support students who may require additional guidance, encouragement or intervention
  • Assist teachers with the preparation of classroom resources and learning materials
  • Support differentiated learning activities and help students access work at an appropriate level
  • Monitor student engagement and provide feedback to teachers where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and other school staff
  • Support students during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and other parts of the school day where required
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, respectful and positive school environment
  • Promote good attendance, punctuality, behaviour and engagement
  • Follow school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding and student welfare
  • Promote the wellbeing, personal development and academic progress of students
