We are currently recruiting for a SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant to join a Primary School in WA9. This is a long-term opportunity supporting a Year 4 pupil on a 1:1 basis who has SEMH needs, behavioural difficulties and a diagnosis of PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance).
This is a rewarding role for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will build a positive relationship with the pupil, help them regulate emotions, engage in learning and navigate the school day successfully.
The role is Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 15:30pm, with an ASAP start.
The school is looking for a patient, resilient and nurturing individual who can provide consistency, set clear boundaries and positively support the pupil both inside and outside of the classroom.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with SEMH needs and PDA
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
- Building a trusting relationship to support emotional regulation and engagement
- Encouraging participation in learning activities and classroom routines
- Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team to implement support strategies
- Promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
Requirements or Skills:
- Previous experience working with children with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional needs
- Confident managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Patient, resilient and adaptable approach
- Experience within education, youth work, care, support work or similar settings
- No qualifications required, however relevant experience is essential

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
