We’re currently recruiting for a Young Learner Development Assistant to work within welcoming and supportive Primary Schools, starting in September. This exciting opportunity is ideal for graduates looking to gain valuable school-based experience before progressing into teaching, educational psychology, SEND support, speech and language therapy, social work or other child-focused professions.

As a Young Learner Development Assistant, you’ll support pupils academically, socially and emotionally, helping them build the confidence, resilience and skills needed to achieve their full potential.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 on a one-to-one, small group and whole-class basis.
  • Help children develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
  • Deliver targeted interventions in Reading, Writing and Maths.
  • Support pupils with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language needs and SEMH.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and emotional development.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Support pupils’ communication, engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Prepare classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Ideal Background

We welcome applications from graduates who have completed one of the following degrees within the last five years:

  • Childhood Studies
  • Early Years Childhood Studies
  • Psychology
  • Criminology
  • BA Education
  • Primary Education
  • MA Education
  • MA Education (SEND and Inclusion)
  • PGCE
  • Other Education, Child Development or Social Science-related degrees

Requirements

  • Degree obtained within the last five years.
  • Professional employment references covering the last two years.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic and adaptable approach.
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
