Milk Education are recruiting for a SEN Learning Support Assistant to work within supportive schools across South Tyneside, providing dedicated support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential. You'll work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide personalised 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.

The role would suit an experienced Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Support Worker, as well as someone with relevant experience in care, youth work, mentoring or supporting individuals with additional needs.

SEN Learning Support Assistant Key Responsibilities:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs

• Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, learning difficulties and other additional needs

• Helping pupils access the curriculum by adapting activities and resources to meet their individual needs

• Building positive, trusting relationships that encourage confidence, engagement and independence

• Supporting pupils with their communication, social skills, emotional regulation and personal development

• Working alongside teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff to implement individual support strategies

• Encouraging pupils to participate in lessons and overcome barriers to learning

• Supporting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop appropriate strategies for managing challenges

• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers and the wider support team

• Promoting a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels supported and valued

SEN Learning Support Assistant Person Specification:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable but not essential

• Experience in a school, specialist setting, care, youth work, mentoring or support work would be beneficial

• Support Workers, Care Workers, Youth Workers, Graduates and those with relevant transferable experience are encouraged to apply

• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs

• A calm, patient, empathetic and adaptable approach

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• The ability to understand and respond to individual needs

• Ability to work proactively, both independently and as part of a wider school team

• Solid numeracy and literacy skills

• An Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or willingness to apply)
