Day To Day Emergency Cover Teaching Assistant

Working hours: 8.30am-3.30pm Monday to Friday

Milk Education are recruiting for reliable and adaptable Teaching Assistants to provide day-to-day emergency cover across primary and secondary schools in South Tyneside.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker or someone looking to build their experience in education. You'll be supporting schools when they need additional staff, often at short notice, helping to ensure pupils continue to receive the support they need throughout the school day.

As a Day to Day Emergency Cover Teaching Assistant, no two days will necessarily be the same. You could be supporting pupils 1:1, working with small groups, assisting in the classroom or providing additional support across the school. The ability to quickly build positive relationships, follow teachers' instructions and adapt to different school environments is key.

Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities:

• Providing day-to-day emergency cover across a range of schools in South Tyneside

• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or within the wider classroom

• Assisting teachers with learning activities and classroom routines

• Supporting pupils with SEND and additional learning needs where required

• Helping pupils stay focused, engaged and confident in their learning

• Building positive and professional relationships with pupils and school staff

• Following lesson plans, school policies and guidance from the class teacher

• Adapting quickly to different classrooms, year groups and school environments

• Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

• Providing flexible support wherever the school needs additional classroom assistance

Teaching Assistant Person Specification:

• Previous experience working in a school, nursery, care, youth work or support setting is desirable but not essential

• Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Support Workers, Graduates and those with relevant transferable experience are encouraged to apply

• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people

• A calm, patient and adaptable approach

• Confident communication and strong relationship-building skills

• Ability to quickly adapt to new schools, classrooms and routines

• Ability to work proactively, both independently and as part of a team

• Solid numeracy and literacy skills

• An Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or willingness to apply)
