Specialist Teaching Assistant

Milk Education are currently recruiting forSpecialist Teaching Assistants to work with vulnerable young children who require additional support in a school setting.

This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates who are considering a career in teaching, psychology, speech and language therapy, SEND or child development and are looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience working directly with children.

You don't necessarily need previous school experience. We're looking for motivated individuals who are patient, compassionate, resilient and passionate about supporting children, with a genuine interest in helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential.

The role will give you the opportunity to develop practical experience supporting children with a range of additional needs, while working alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to children who require additional support
  • Supporting children to access learning and participate positively in school life
  • Building positive, trusting and consistent relationships with vulnerable children
  • Supporting children with communication, interaction, social and emotional needs
  • Helping children develop confidence, independence and resilience
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Encouraging children to communicate their needs and express themselves
  • Adapting your approach to meet individual children's needs
  • Supporting pupils with their learning, development and wellbeing
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other members of the support team
  • Following individual support plans and school procedures
  • Creating a safe, calm and inclusive environment
  • Supporting children during lessons, break times and wider school activities
  • Communicating effectively with school staff about children's progress and needs
  • Developing your understanding of SEND and the different approaches used to support children

Requirements or Skills:

  • A degree in Psychology, Education, Speech and Language Therapy, Childhood Studies, Sociology or a related subject is desirable

OR

  • Graduates from other degree backgrounds with a genuine interest in working with children are also encouraged to apply

OR

  • A strong interest in teaching, psychology, speech and language therapy, SEND or child development and transferable skills from a relevant field
  • A patient, compassionate and nurturing approach
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting children who may display challenging behaviour or become dysregulated
  • A flexible and adaptable approach
  • Resilience and a willingness to learn
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable children and helping them achieve their potential
  • A willingness to complete the required safeguarding and complianc
