We are seeking to appoint a caring, dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and inclusive primary school in Sheffield. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, develop independence and achieve their full potential within a nurturing school environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENDCo and other professionals to provide high-quality support for pupils with a range of additional needs, ensuring every child is valued, included and encouraged to succeed.

The Role

• Provide tailored support for pupils with a range of SEND, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and cognition and learning difficulties.
• Work on a one-to-one basis and with small groups to support learning, communication, emotional regulation and social development.
• Deliver targeted interventions and personalized learning programmes under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo.
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual pupil needs.
• Promote positive behaviour using consistent strategies and individual support plans.
• Encourage independence, confidence and resilience in pupils.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and the SENDCo.
• Support pupils with personal care where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
• Work collaboratively with families and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the support they need.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

Essential

• A recognised Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience of working with children with SEND in a school or similar setting.
• A good understanding of inclusive practice and strategies to support pupils with additional needs.
• GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues and parents.
• A patient, calm and flexible approach, with a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

• Experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs.
• Knowledge of communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS or visual timetables.
• Experience delivering intervention programmes.
• Positive behaviour support or Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training).
• First Aid qualification.
