Milk Education are currently recruiting for Teaching Assistants across local schools, offering an exciting opportunity for people with a care background and transferable skills to move into a career in education.

If you have experience supporting children, young people or adults in care, residential, support work, healthcare or similar settings, your existing skills could transfer incredibly well into a school environment.

You don't necessarily need previous experience working in education. We're looking for people who are patient, compassionate, resilient and confident building positive relationships, with a genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential.

Your experience from the care sector could be particularly valuable when supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, autism and other additional needs. You'll work alongside teachers and wider support teams to help pupils access learning, develop their confidence and build positive relationships.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils
• Supporting children and young people with their learning and development
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Supporting pupils with additional needs, including SEND and SEMH
• Helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Creating a safe, calm and inclusive environment
• Working closely with teachers and other support staff
• Following individual support plans and school procedures
• Encouraging pupils to engage positively with learning and school life
• Using your existing care and support skills to adapt to individual needs
• Getting involved in wider school activities and becoming part of the school team

Requirements or Skills:

• Previous experience within care, support work, healthcare, residential care, youth work or a similar environment
• Transferable experience supporting vulnerable children, young people or adults
• A patient, compassionate and understanding approach
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build positive relationships and establish trust
• Resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
• A flexible and proactive approach with a willingness to get stuck in
• A genuine interest in developing a career within education
• Experience or knowledge of SEND, SEMH or autism is desirable but not essential
• A willingness to learn and develop new skills within a school environment
• A willingness to complete the required safeguarding and compliance checks
