SEND Learning Support Assistant - Darlington

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Darlington and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, patient, and dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.

Whether you're an experienced Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or have previous experience supporting children with additional needs, we'd love to hear from you. We have a range of long-term and full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

You'll play an important role in supporting pupils with SEND to access learning, develop their independence, and overcome barriers to education within a nurturing and inclusive Primary School environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support pupils to access the Primary curriculum and classroom activities.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and learning needs.
  • Implement strategies from EHCPs and individual support plans.
  • Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, and resilience.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND is desirable.
  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Learning Support, or SEN qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education and SEND support.
  • Patient, calm, and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
