Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive specialist provision school in York that is looking to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This rewarding role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs. You'll play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their full potential within a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

The Role

  • Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication needs, and complex learning difficulties.
  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to develop learning, confidence, and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and the wider pastoral team to support individual learning plans.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development.
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Adapt learning activities and support strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or additional needs in education, care, youth work, or similar settings.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual pupil needs.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people to achieve their potential.
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential β€” we welcome applicants with transferable experience and the right attitude.
