SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Milk Education is currently recruiting a caring, resilient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a welcoming and highly supportive specialist primary school in Bury. This opportunity is available for a September start and is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful difference to children with complex additional needs.

In this rewarding role, you'll work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and a multidisciplinary team to provide personalised support that enables every pupil to reach their full potential in a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment.

Your Role

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Support children with Autism (ASC), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), sensory needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
• Adapt learning activities using visual resources, communication aids and sensory strategies to meet individual learning styles.
• Assist pupils with personal care, feeding and mobility where required, ensuring dignity and promoting independence at all times.
• Work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning and intervention programmes.
• Implement strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and contribute to pupil progress.
• Foster communication, emotional regulation, social development and life skills through structured and play-based learning opportunities.
• Create a calm, positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports engagement and wellbeing.
• Prepare classroom resources and support with daily routines, including sensory activities and transitions throughout the school day.
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour using a consistent and nurturing approach.

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

• Has experience working with children or young people with additional needs in a school, care, residential, nursery or support setting (desirable but not essential).
• Is patient, compassionate and committed to helping every child achieve their individual goals.
• Is confident supporting children with complex communication, sensory or behavioural needs, or is eager to develop these skills.
• Is comfortable supporting pupils with personal care where required.
• Has excellent communication and teamwork skills and enjoys working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families.
• Is adaptable, proactive and able to remain calm in a busy and rewarding environment.
• Has an understanding of safeguarding, or is willing to complete relevant training.
• Holds a degree in Psychology, Education or a related subject (desirable but not essential).
